Conceptual Development and Cost Estimating of Engineering Projects

2 Days, 1.5 CEUs, 15 PDHs

Cost, cost, cost! Doesn’t anybody care about quality? Actually, they do. But to have the opportunity to consistently perform quality work in industry, you have to accurately estimate the cost of delivering it.

This course teaches plant and project engineers, project managers, plant maintenance personnel, and engineering mangers how to develop and optimize accurate and timely cost estimates for engineering projects in process industries such as chemical, pharmaceutical, biological, petrochemical, materials, petroleum, and gas. It covers how to effectively conceptualize an engineering project and make estimates based on project type, size, and location, and how to factor in risk and other uncertainties. Using accepted estimating terminology, it deals with equipment costs, installation factors, assignment of contingencies, scaling methods, and cost escalation. It also covers detailed estimates using RS means cost data, other sources of equipment cost information, project management costs, and projected related costs.

Instructor Biography:

John Williams, Ph.D., P.E., has spent more than 20 years in the process industry. A veteran of Monsanto, Babcock & Wilcox, and major pharmaceutical manufacturers, he has worked extensively in project conceptualization and analysis, plant design, process expansions, and plant retrofits
