NEWSLETTER OF THE EAST TENNESSEE SECTION OF AIChE
AIChE October Meeting and Social
On Friday, October 22, AIChE will hold its annual social with dinner at Camberleys Martha Washington Inn followed by the play Wuthering Heights at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM at the Martha Washington. Total cost of the meal (tax and gratuity included) will be $24/person. This reflects a partial subsidy by AIChE. The meal will be buffet style, as in years past. Selections include: Spinach salad with warm bacon vinaigrette, Greek salad with artichoke, mushrooms and mixed peppers, Dijon marinated breast of chicken with capers in white wine sauce, Sliced Virginia fresh ham with roasted garlic, Seasoned vegetables, Rosemary roasted new potatoes, Bishop rolls with butter, Warm strawberry shortcake, Key lime cheesecake, Iced tea, and Coffee.
Following dinner, the group will proceed across the street to the Barter Theatre to view Wuthering Heights, an adaptation of Emily Brontes novel by Richard Rose. "A stunning version of Brontes immortal love story set amid the bleak beauty of Haworth Manor, a landscape ruled by the wild and terrible figure of Heathcliff. This tale of his searing passion for the beautiful Catherine Earnshaw has the vividness of a nightmare, the beauty and simplicity of an old ballad, and the depth and intensity of ancient tragedy. A spellbinding thriller!" Tickets will be $18/person.
Reservations should be made with Steve Kennedy, B-348, Eastman Chemical Company, P.O. Box 1972, Kingsport, TN 37662. Please make checks payable to AIChE; reservations are due by Friday October 15. Only 40 tickets are available for Wuthering Heights!!! Members are invited to attend the show or dinner or both. Total cost for dinner and the play is $42/person. Mark your calendars and make your reservations now!

AIChE Officer Elections Coming Soon
We will hold elections for officers of the East Tennessee Local Section of AIChE by paper ballot during November. Serving as an officer is a great way to learn more about the workings of AIChE and help further the cause of your profession. Elections will be held for the positions of Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Director. The Vice Chair serves as head of the program committee and automatically succeeds to the position of Chair. The Directors serve as consultants and typically have past experience as a section officer or active involvement in section initiatives. If you would like to be nominated for an officer position, please contact John Aycock by 10/15/99 at (423) 229-8860 or via email at jdaycock@eastman.com.

Recap of September Meeting
The local section held our first meeting of the year on September 13, 1999, at Amatos Restaurant in Kingsport. Speakers were David Clough and Miles Julian, instructors for the AIChE Spreadsheet Power! course. They delivered a wonderful talk about computers in engineering calculations and education, along with some good war stories and "watch-outs" for practitioners. Attendees received certificates for 1.5 Professional Development Hours for PE continuing education requirements.
